Las Vegas, New Mexico
Like the first season, Outer Range season 2 was majorly filmed in Las Vegas, the county seat of San Miguel County in New Mexico. The city is shown as the fictional Amelia County in the show. The rural setting around the city made it the perfect location to shoot the Western drama. The shoot for the second season began here in April 2023 and wrapped up a few months later.
New Mexico’s Las Vegas is known for its rich history and cultural heritage. Founded in 1835, it served as a vital stop along the Santa Fe Trail, a significant trade route in the 19th century. The shoot of Outer Range season 2 also took place in Santa Fe, the capital of New Mexico. In the summer of 2023, there was a call for local actors and crew members residing in the city. The production team hired around 2000 locals as background actors, along with some 200-300 crew members from New Mexico to help with the production of the series.
Santa Fe holds the distinction of being the oldest capital city in the United States. The city’s distinctive architecture, with its earthy tones and rounded edges, reflects its rich Native American and Spanish heritage. Albuquerque, New Mexico
Another city from New Mexico that features in the show is Albuquerque. Though in the show, the ranch is shown to be in Wyoming, the sequences involving it are actually filmed in Albuquerque. Established in 706 as a Spanish colonial outpost, Albuquerque has since grown into the largest city in the state.
One of its most famous attractions is the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the largest hot-air balloon festival in the world, drawing thousands of visitors each year. The city is also renowned for its Native American and Hispanic heritage. Apart from Outer Range, the city was widely featured in two of the most popular dramas, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
