Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited magnum opus Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is finally streaming on Netflix. Touted as SLB’s biggest project so far, the show follows the lives of courtesans living in a red-light area in Lahore in the pre-independence era, who play an active role in the struggle against the British regime. With its grandeur, magnificence, and mesmerizing visuals, the show has captured the attention of the audience. If you, too, are captivated by Heeramandi and are eagerly awaiting its season 2, we have some news for you.

Will Heeramandi Return with Season 2 on Netflix?

Fans might be disappointed to know that as of now, the chances of Heeramandi returning with a season 2 seem pretty grim. The reason for the same is that neither Netflix nor Sanjay Leela Bhansali has announced the continuation of the series with another season. Looks like Heeramandi was always planned as a one-season series.

Heeramandi Season 2

Another factor that seems to work against the renewal of the show is its staggering budget. The cost of production for the eight-episode first season is estimated to be more than Rs. 200 crores, making it the most expensive Indian OTT series ever. Netflix might not want to make such a huge investment once again in the show, and hence might now renew it for another season.

Also, from the story point of view, all the plot points featured in the first season have reached their conclusion. From Mallikajaan and Fareedan to Wali Mohammed and Zoravar, the conflicts involving each character have been resolved in the series already, which also hints that there will not be a Heeramandi season 2. Nevertheless, we should still wait for the official confirmation by Netflix and SLB, as the viewership ratings of the show could very well change the fate of the series.
