Jatinder Jinda is an important character in the movie Amar Singh Chamkila. He is an established singer who takes Chamkila under his wing and grows him as a singer. Jatinder Jinda Singer from Chamkila: Who is He in Real life? Where is He Now?

Jatinder Jinda is inspired by the real-life singer Surinder Shinda. He was a popular singer who had a 4-decade long career that lasted from 1978 till 2017. He is also known for producing music for many new singers, and his association with Chamkila is what bolstered Chamkila to the heights he reached.

Surinder Shinda was born as Surinder Pal Dhammi in Ludhiana, Punjab. He began singing at the age of 6 and had over 150 releases in his lifetime. Shinda was a colleague of singer Kuldeep Manak and his wife was the cousin of lyricist Dev Tharikewala’s wife. Shinda had many popular hits such as Jeona Morh and Badla le Layeen Sohneya.

While on his rise to fame, his paths collided with Amar Singh Chamkila who initially was more of a pupil to Shinda. Amar Singh Chamkila would do odd jobs with Shinda and also write lyrics for Shinda. As shown in the film, Chamkila started gaining popularity with the audiences with his fresh lyrics and mass treatment of Punjabi music.

Chamkila had a falling out with Shinda after Surinder Sonia made an album with Chamkila. Sonia and Chamkila then gained popularity for the music they created, and it propelled Chamkila to greater heights before his untimely assassination. Shinda, however, went on to have a successful career of his own and kept on making and producing music till 2017. He even worked with artists of the current generation like B Praak.

Shinda was called the Grandfather of MOC, which is music on console, and his songs like Putt Jattan De, Balbiro Bhabhi, and Kaher Singh di Mout are considered iconic. He also appeared in the film Putt Jattan De. Shinda passed away at the age of 70 on 26th July 2023 due to multiple organ failure. His career has been celebrated and he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Brit Asia TV Music Awards and the Shiromani Gayak Award by the Punjab Government.
