25 years after the blockbuster success of The Talented Mr. Ripley, Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel has now been adapted into a series for Netflix, titled Ripley. The show offers a fresh take on the classic story based in the 1960s, with Andrew Scott starring as Tom Ripley, a con artist and serial killer. The entire show has been shot in black and white, giving it the perfect aura of the mid-1900s. Also, the production crew has worked tirelessly to transport the audience back to an era gone by. Amalfi Coast, Italy

Since the premise of the show is set in Italy, Ripley was majorly shot across various regions of Italy. The filming primarily took place on the Amalfi Coast, which is known for its dramatic cliffs, colorful villages, and crystal-clear waters. The coast can be seen in the background in a number of sequences of the show.

The shoot also took place in Atrani, a city on the Amalfi Coast. The city is known for its narrow streets, colorful buildings, and picturesque square. The city offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and houses several ancient churches, such as the Church of San Salvatore de’ Birecto.

Venice, Italy

Ripley was also filmed in Venice, the scenic capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region. A few scenes were shot at Chiesa di San Simeon Piccolo. A scene was also filmed at Caffè Florian, situated at P.za San Marco, 57, 30124, Venice. The cafe is over 300-years-old now. Opened in 1720, the building was restored in the mid 19th century. Caffè Florian has historical significance as it remained open even during world wars and still sees numerous customers everyday.

Rome, Italy

The shoot of the series also took place in Rome, the capital of Italy. The cast and crew were spotted taping some scenes at Comfort Hotel Bolivar, situated at Via della Cordonata, 6, 00187, Rome. A sequence involving Ripley climbing the stairs was actually shot at the 4-star hotel.

The Palazzo dei Congressi, located at Piazza John Kennedy, 1, 00144 Rome, also served as a filming location for Ripley. Designed by Adalberto Libera, the building completed construction in 1954. The plaza is spread over an area of 29,000 square km and has a plenary room with 1,400 seats.

Naples, Italy

Apart from the above cities and towns, the cast was also seen filming for a sequence at the Santa Maria La Nova church in Naples. The church nave ceiling features 46 gilt-framed fresco panels completed between 1598-1600. Artists like Francesco Curia, Girolamo Imparato, and Fabrizio Santafede contributed artworks in the church, depicting scenes like the Assumption and Coronation of the Virgin. Belisario Corenzio’s work adorns windows and the counterfacade.

New York City, New York

As the premise of the show is partly set in New York, the filming also took place on location in New York City. NYC’s appeal for filming lies in its iconic landmarks, diverse neighborhoods, and vibrant atmosphere, providing versatile backdrops for various film genres. Its well-developed infrastructure, including studios and facilities, supports smooth production processes.
