As Netflix’s Maestro in Blue is returning with season 2, it is once again making news for its exotic filming locations, featuring beautiful islands and majestic streets. The Greek show follows a troubled musician who visits the Paxos island in Greece to direct a music festival but gets embroiled in a murder mystery. While the first season of the show was majorly shot in Paxos, let’s have a look at where Maestro in Blue season 2 was filmed.
Paxos, Greece
As the premise of Maestro in Blue is set in Paxos, the production team chose to shoot the series in the same island, just like the first season. The scenic island is also known as Paxi or Paxoi along with Antipaxos, with Gaios serving as its main town. With an area of 25.3 square kilometers and a population of about 2,500, it’s the smallest of the seven main Ionian Islands. Paxos boasts a rich history, inhabited since prehistoric times.
Phoenicians were the first settlers in the island, giving rise to its name, possibly from the word “Pax,” meaning “trapezoidal.” It played a crucial role in ancient conflicts, later ruled by Romans, pirates, and Venetians, and finally ceded to Greece in 1864 after various occupations, including during the Napoleonic Wars. Paxos is still a relatively unexplored region and hence has not been featured in many films and shows despite its breathtaking beauty. In fact, Maestro in Blue is one of the first few projects to have been shot on the island.
Corfu, Greece
A major portion of Maestro in Blue season 2 was also filmed on the island of Corfu. A part of the Ionian Islands, Corfu forms Greece’s northwestern frontier, administered by three municipalities. The main city, Corfu, houses the Ionian University. Rich in Greek mythology and history, it’s been the site of numerous battles. Its shape, resembling a sickle, stretches approximately 64 km long and 32 km wide.
Corfu Island’s diverse landscapes, from mountains to valleys and picturesque coastlines, make it a prime location for filming. Its rich history adds authenticity and intrigue to any production set against its backdrop. The island’s charming villages, ancient ruins, and vibrant culture provide filmmakers with a variety of settings to choose from. Hence, Corfu has also served as a filming location for shows and films like The Durrells, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, For Your Eyes Only, My Family and Other Animals, Hired to Kill, The Burglars, The Executioner, and King Petar the First.
