The fantasy adventure series on Netflix follows two young boys, Charles Rowland, and Edwin Paine, who decide to stay on earth after their deaths and investigate supernatural crimes. Apart from its interesting premise, the show is also being praised for its impressive visuals, featuring out-of-the-world elements. This gives rise to the question of where the show was filmed. Well, the series was shot in British Columbia from November 7th, 2022, to April 5th, 2023. Here are all the filming locations of Dead Boy Detectives.

Vancouver, British Columbia

Vancouver, the bustling city of British Columbia in Canada, served as the primary filming location of Dead Boy Detectives. The cast and crew were spotted filming different sequences at various spots across the city. Some scenes were filmed at Cambie Street, just outside Take Out Shack restaurant.

Vancouver has a thriving film industry, where a number of films and television shows and filmed every year. Hence, the city provides ease of production and gives access to modern filming facilities and talented crew. Also, the city has some scenic geographical locations, including dense forests and lakes, which made it the ideal place to film a series like Dead Boy Detectives.

Langley, British Columbia

Some scenes of the series were filmed in Langley City, situated in the Metro Vancouver Regional District in BC, Canada. The city has a production studio located at 20146 100a Avenue, where some VFX-loaded sequences were taped. A number of other interior scenes were also shot in the studio.

Langley is famous for the Fort Langley National Historic Site, which preserves the area’s colonial heritage, offering a glimpse into the region’s past as a trading post during the fur trade era. The city is also famous for its thriving agricultural industry, with numerous farms and markets offering fresh produce and artisanal goods.

Vancouver Island, British Columbia

Dead Boy Detectives Filming Locations

A few sequences of the Dead Boy Detectives were shot in Vancouver Island, particularly at the hamlet of Shirley. The production team utilized the Sheringham Point Lighthouse, present in Shirley, as a backdrop for some scenes. The lighthouse serves as a navigational aid, constructed in 1912, six years after the SS Valencia shipwreck of 1906. Named after William L. Sheringham, the lighthouse is currently owned by the Canadian Coast Guard, but efforts are underway to convert it into a public park.

Discovery Islands, British Columbia

Apart from the above locations, Dead Boy Detectives was also filmed in Discovery Islands, a group of islands between mainland Canada and Vancouver Island. The islands are known for their natural beauty, comprising lush forests, rocky shores, and pristine beaches. The dense jungle of the location served as the perfect filming location for the show, giving it a mysterious and gloomy vibe.

The islands are also famous for indigenous history and culture, as there are several archaeological sites and ancient petroglyphs scattered throughout the region. Most of these islands are scarcely populated, with ferry service being available on only two of them: Quadra Island and Cortes Island.
