Move over Meg as Paris has gotten its own shark attack! Netflix’s ‘Under Paris’ tells the harrowing story of a shark lurking in the Seine River while the city prepares for a triathlon. The film features some haunting underwater visuals, apart from the beautiful scenery of Paris, making one wonder about the filming locations of Netflix’s ‘Under Paris’. Paris, France

As the name of the film suggests, ‘Under Paris’ was majorly shot in Paris, the capital of France. The cast and crew were seen filming at various outdoor locations in the city. A few scenes were taped just outside the Hôtel de Ville, the city hall designed by Théodore Ballu and Édouard Deperthes featuring Renaissance Revival architecture.

This iconic building, located in the 4th arrondissement, has been the seat of Paris’ government since 1357. The current structure was rebuilt in the late 19th century after a fire during the Paris Commune. The building houses the Mayor’s office, city council meetings, and various official events and also opens its doors for public exhibitions and cultural activities.

‘Under Paris’ also shows different views of the Seine River. The river starts in the Burgundy region and travels 777 kilometers northwest before reaching the English Channel at Le Havre. The seine divides the city into right and left banks, which have been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Apart from the above locations, the views of various landmarks and iconic spots in Paris, including the Eiffel Tower.

Alacant, Spain

The CGI scenes involving the shark were filmed at the Ciudad de la Luz studios. The studio was established in 2005 and features state-of-the-art facilities, including sound stages, workshops, and a large water tank for underwater scenes, perfect for a series like ‘Under Paris’. The complex spans over 300,000 square meters, offering versatile spaces for film and television productions. Despite facing financial challenges and legal issues, leading to its temporary closure in 2012, Ciudad de la Luz returned to operations and now serves as a prominent filming site.

Brussels, Belgium

A few scenes of ‘Under Paris’ were filmed in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. The city is a great place for filming because of its mix of old and new buildings and rich culture. It has beautiful historic sites, modern areas, and charming streets, making it perfect for different kinds of movies. Its central location in Europe means it’s easy to get to from other major cities, with good transportation options. Brussels also supports filmmakers with helpful film commissions and incentives.
