Star Wars has added another feather to its hat with the release of ‘The Acolyte’. The Disney+ series shows the High Republic Era, which has never been seen in any film or series before. So where did the cast and crew shoot for the sci-fi series? Let’s have a look at all the filming locations of ‘The Acolyte’.

Berkshire, UK

‘The Acolyte’ is a VFX-heavy series with a lot of special effects. Hence, the producers mainly used the Shinfield Studios in Berkshire, UK to shoot a variety of sequences of the show. The studio features 18 fully soundproofed and air-conditioned stages. This expansive facility offers nearly 1 million sq ft of studio space, including purpose-built sound stages, workshop and mill spaces, contemporary offices, and a backlot.

Shinfield Studios supports innovation and employment, collaborating with the University of Reading and Wokingham Council. Notably, it boasts the UK’s largest soundproofed stage at 43,000 sq ft with a 50 ft working height. Managed by an experienced team, Shinfield Studios has already hosted major US productions and streamers.

Madeira, Portugal

The Acolyte Filming Locations

Some scenes of ‘The Acolyte’ were filmed on the Madeira island of Portugal, particularly on the north coast. The island is known for its natural beauty and rich history. Nestled in the Atlantic Ocean, it offers stunning landscapes of lush green mountains, dramatic cliffs, and picturesque villages. The island’s mild climate makes it a year-round destination for outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, and exploring its volcanic caves. Its charming capital, Funchal, boasts historic architecture, colorful markets, and lively festivals. 

Wales, UK

‘The Acolyte’ was also shot at the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, United Kingdom. The national park is considered a stunning place known for its natural beauty.  Covering about 520 square miles, it has diverse landscapes, like tall mountains, green valleys, and waterfalls. The park’s dark skies are perfect for stargazing, offering amazing views of the stars. Also, there are cute towns and villages that offer an experience of Welsh culture.

London, UK

A portion of ‘The Acolyte’ was also filmed in London. The city’s  rich history and iconic landmarks provide diverse backdrops for storytelling, from ancient architecture to modern cityscapes. Additionally, the city’s cultural diversity offers a wide range of settings and characters, enhancing the authenticity of film productions. London’s well-developed infrastructure supports the film industry with access to top-notch studios, equipment, and talent. Moreover, its favorable climate and varied seasons allow for versatile filming opportunities year-round.
