Tori Spelling has officially filed for divorce from her husband Dean McDermott, ending 18 years of marriage. The reality star filed the papers in Los Angeles Superior Court. While the two have been separated for a while, it was only on Friday, March 29th when Tori decided to proceed with ending the relationship legally. The court documents obtained also show the reason for the divorce of the two former reality co-stars. Read on to know all about the same.
Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott’s Reason for Divorce Revealed
As per the legal documents, the couple has been separated since June 17th, 2023. Tori has cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for filing for the divorce, like a majority of Hollywood couples. Tori and Dean tied the knot in 2006 and share five children together: Liam, 17, Stella, 15, Hattie, 12, Finn, 11, and Beau, 7.
Tori has asked for sole physical custody of all the children, while she has requested joint legal custody, which means, as per her demand, the children will reside with her, but their major life decisions can be taken by both her and her estranged husband. The Beverly Hills, 90210 star has also demanded spousal support from Dean, though the financials of the same has not been disclosed yet.
Apart from irreconcilable differences, Dean’s excessive alcohol use is also attributed to the trouble in his marriage. The Canadian actor had himself revealed in an interview last year that his alcoholism did play a part in straining his relationship with Tori.
The Couple’s Marriage Hit Rock Bottom Last Year
It was in June 2023 when the couple revealed that they were going their separate ways. At the time, Dean posted a long paragraph on Instagram, announcing the news, however, the post was taken down just a few hours later without any explanation. An insider then revealed that the couple was still trying to make their marriage work and was seeking counseling.
In July 2023, Tori and Dean, amidst divorce rumors, stayed in an L.A. hotel due to a mold annoyance at home and followed it up with a summer RV vacation with their kids. Then in October, Dean was photographed with a new girl, Lily Calo, who has now officially become his girlfriend. On the other hand, Tori has been linked to Ryan Cramer since November 2023. Cramer is the CEO of an advertising agency.
Tori and Dean are Still on Good Terms
Although the couple is heading for divorce, they still appear to be on good terms with each other, and even with each other’s new love interests. At the beginning of March, Tori met Dean at Dave & Busters in Los Angeles for the birthday party of one of their kids, where she stumbled upon Dean’s new girlfriend, Lily Calo. However, instead of things getting awkward, the two ladies hugged and kissed each other on the cheek. Tori and Lily remained amicable with each other through the night, and the extended family had a good time together.
