Where is Maxton Hall?

Maxton Hall is a fictional school, the scenes of which were filmed at the scenic Marienburg Castle in Germany. The shoot of the series took place between July and September 2022. Marienburg Castle is a Gothic revival masterpiece situated in Lower Saxony, Germany, near Hildesheim and Hannover. Constructed from 1858 to 1867 by King George V of Hanover as a gift for his wife, Marie of Saxe-Altenburg, it served as a summer residence for the House of Welf.

The castle was designed by architect Conrad Wilhelm Hase. Annexed by Prussia in 1866, the property remained vacant for 80 years. In 1945, Duke Ernest Augustus of Brunswick and his family occupied the castle, later converting it into a museum. Prince Ernst August of Hanover inherited the castle in 2004, utilizing it for the House of Hanover’s administration and opening parts to the public for events and tours. Marienburg Castle earlier served as a filming location for the Australian series In Your Dreams.

Apart from Marienburg Castle, Maxton Hall: The World Between Us was also filmed in Berlin, London, and Oxford. Berlin, the capital of Germany, is renowned for its rich history, culture, and significant landmarks. It’s famous for the Berlin Wall, a symbol of the Cold War’s division, which now serves as a memorial. The city also has world-class museums like the Pergamon Museum, housing ancient artifacts, and the East Side Gallery, decorated with murals.

The production team of Maxton Hall utilized these modern facilities to shoot some key scenes of the series. The city’s skyline is dominated by stunning medieval architecture, including the iconic Radcliffe Camera and Bodleian Library. 

Apart from Maxton Hall, Berlin has also hosted the production of shows like Stranger Things, Killing Eve, All the Light We Cannot See, and The Queen’s Gambit; while London is famous for facilitating the filming of series like Baby Reindeer, 3 Body Problem, The Gentlemen, and A Gentleman in Moscow. Oxford has earlier served as a filming location for the shows Renegade Nell, Masters of the Air, A Discovery of Witches, and His Dark Materials.
